Hormone Creams Carry Risks for Pets
Veterinarians around the country are reporting a strange phenomenon: spayed dogs and cats, even some puppies and kittens, are suddenly showing symptoms such as swollen genitals, swollen breast tissue and behavioral problems. Now vets have identified the culprit. The pets were all owned by women who used hormone creams on their hands, arms and legs to counter symptoms of menopause, The New York Times reports.

Surgery for Cushing’s Disease Now Successful in Dogs
An operation commonly performed to remove brain tumors from the pituitary glands of humans is now available to dogs, thanks to a collaboration between a neurosurgeon and some veterinarians in Los Angeles. It's very unusual for dogs to contract tetanus, but that's exactly what happened to a Labrador named Buddy. His owners, Lisa and Tim Shiley, of Royal, are thankful their 4-year-old pet is on the road to recovery – after his life-and-death battle. Last week the couple took Buddy home from the Remsen Vet Clinic, where veterinarian Kristi Mason, D.V.M., had been treating him since Oct. 4., the (Le Mars, Iowa) Daily Sentinel reports.

Man Revives Dog With CPR
Dr. Larry Kosinski’s 8-year-old Chihuahua, Valentino, stopped breathing and had no pulse after a dog Kosinski was dog-sitting bit the little pooch. Lucky for Valentino, Kosinski knows CPR. He gave the three-pound Chihuahua a set of two rescue breaths, began administering compressions and Valentino was revived, NBC Chicago reports.
