Report: 50 Percent of U.S. pets weigh too much
More than 50 percent of cats and dogs in the U.S. are overweight or obese, which can lead to serious health issues such as arthritis, diabetes, hypertension and kidney failure, says a report co-conducted by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. Experts attribute this rise in pet obesity to owners failing to provide their animals with proper exercise and routinely overfeeding them, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Puppies Ease Family's Pain After Fire Claims Dogs' Lives
It's been more than two months since Joel Lawrence and his family lost everything they owned when a fire ripped through their Hellam Township home.The weeks following the Dec. 10 fire were especially hard on the family of four, said Joel, a high school sophomore.That's because they grieved over the loss of their two dogs, a Golden Retriever, Rusty, and black Lab, Blue. Although no pets could ever replace the love Joel and his family had for the two dogs, the family has since purchased two new puppies, reports the York (Penn.) Dispatch.
