Hammond city hall was inundated with calls and e-mail messages as the video clip went viral, Mayor Thomas McDermott McDermott says in a report by the ChicagoTribune.

"Unfortunately for this officer, this mistake is going to be viewed a million times all over the country,” McDermott states in his weekly radio talk show.

The officer was placed on administrative leave immediately. The mayor did not excuse the officer’s behavior, he pointed out the officer had an excellent record.

In a statement McDermott says "Anybody who loves dogs as much as I do is always saddened and shocked anytime you hear of a dog's abuse. When you find out it happened with an employee of yours, it makes it that much more shocking and disturbing."

This is not an isolated incident, and by no means restricted to this officer or this department. It has been occurring for many decades in virtually every department and in the military. And then they go in front of the cameras and call their victims their
'partners."

It is a disgrace to see an officer who is suppose to protect living things beat and abuse his partner sho is a trained officer. So so sad for this dog I sure it was not the first time anyone who can do this has done it before. He was blessed to have this beautiful creature with him to protect h and he does this. He is a control freak and seething is definitely wrong with him I hope he is never allowed to have a dog with him again.
