Surf and Paddleboard Lessons

The Helen Woodward Animal Center of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., presents dog surfing and paddle boarding lessons at Dog Beach in Del Mar, Calif. If you and your four-legged friend want to soak in the sun and enjoy the water, then why not learn a little something while you are down there? Members of the So Cal Surf Dogs will be teaching two classes- beginner and advanced. Classes start on June 28, and continue through August on certain Saturdays and Sundays. Each class lasts 50 minutes and has an initial cost of $45. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. (stand-up paddle board only), 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m. For more information and to register, go to animalcenter.org

Paws to Read

Helen Woodward Animal Center and the Rancho Sante Fe Library have joined forces to launch their summer reading program, themed "Paws to Read.” If you are interested in picking up a list of books, HWAC has a reading list available at the Rancho Sante Fe and Otay Mesa libraries, or on site at the center’s adoption building. Along with Paws to Read, Helen Woodward Animal Center will be present at the Rancho Sante Fe Library on June 26th and July 17th to supply library visitors with dog and cat toy-making opportunities. In other library kick-off news, Helen Woodward Animal Center Orphan Pets will be attending the Rancho Pensaquitos Library Kick-Off Party on Saturday, June 14th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Center orphan pets will make another appearance at the Solana Beach Library Kick-Off Party on June 21st, starting at 2 p.m.

Summer Critter Camp

San Diego’s animal camp is meant for kids from Preschool through 8th grade. This camp, put on by Helen Woodward Animal Center, begins June 16th and wraps up on August 22nd. Kids of all ages will be able to interact and learn about animals through a variety of events and activities the camp offers. For more information or to register, click here

Animal Lovers Club

This program offers the public a way to give back to many orphaned animals through small but important tasks. As membership of "Young Pups” — a group of young people dedicating their time to help orphaned animals — has increased, the Helen Woodward Animal Center created activities designed to reward its members for participating. This program gives kids the opportunity to make positive changes in the lives of these orphaned animals.
