Dogs are all beautiful, but some are just a bit more... shall we say, "unique," than others.
The World's Ugliest Dog Competition is not aiming to point out a dog's flaws, but rather hopes to celebrate the unusual attributes and characteristics that these "underdogs" possess. 29 dogs competed for a human-sized trophy and $1,500 in Petaluma, Calif on Friday night.
From dog's missing teeth, to oddly shaped bodies and crazy hair, dogs of all shapes and sizes compete for the honor of "Ugly." Once dogs are vet checked to ensure that their interesting features don't come from bad health or abuse, the battle begins. Judged in categories such as special and unusual attributes, personality and "natural ugliness." The dogs start out in two groups: pedigree and mutts, but in the end, only one can win.
This year's top prize went to a dog named Peanut. A Mixed Breed dog with a face to remember. Little Peanut, who also won the online voting by a landslide, was a victim of abuse before he was rescued by his current owner, Holly Chandler. By entering him in the contest, Peanut's owner hoped to bring awareness to animal abuse and rescue dogs like Peanut. She tells Today.com that the money will be used for vet bills.
See the other competitors who just weren't "ugly" enough to bring home the bacon.
