Fall is here. It’s that time of year when nearly everything becomes pumpkin-flavored. I even saw pumpkin spice peanut butter, M&Ms and Oreo cookies. But my favorites are pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pie. Being an avid cheesecake-lover, the idea of making a pumpkin cheesecake sounds awesome! And when I can make some for my dogs, it’s even better. Plus, today’s National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day. What better way to celebrate than with dogs and a yummy treat?
Dog Pack Snacks have created a recipe that’s ideal for this occasion.
To make the crust, you’ll need:
- 2/3 cup quick oats
- 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
- 2 teaspoons peanut butter
- 1/8 to 1/4 cup water
Mix it all together. The dough will be thick and sticky. Scoop a teaspoon of the crust into each mini muffin pan section. Press the crust to take the shape of the muffin cup.
To make the filling, you’ll need:
- 1/3 cup cream cheese
- 2/3 cup canned pumpkin puree (do not use pumpkin pie mix)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- a dash of ground ginger
Mix all the ingredients together until the cream cheese is well-blended with the pumpkin. Place a tablespoon of the mixture into the crust-ready muffin pan. If you’d like to include a bacon garnish, place a piece of cooked bacon on top. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes at 350 degrees.
If your dog is on a special diet, please check with your vet before giving him these treats.
