The key to one dog’s happiness and loyalty was a meatball.

There was a new competitor in this year’s Adventure Racing World Championship in Ecuador: a dog. When the Swedish team stopped during the race for a meal break, racer Mikael Lindnord noticed a sad, scruffy creature staring at them. Feeling sorry for the dog, Lindnord gave him a meatball.
That meatball was all it took to win that dog’s heart.
The dog, named Arthur by the Swedish racers, followed the team throughout the rest of the course. He trekked with them through the Ecuadorian rainforest, through jungle, mud and water. When he got tired, the team stopped. When they were told going across the water would be risky for both Arthur and the team, they tried to continue without him. Arthur was having none of it, jumping in the water and swimming alongside the team’s kayaks until Lindnord pulled him out and placed him in the kayak with him.
By all accounts, Arthur had made himself part of the team, even sleeping when the team slept. The team finished 12th and even Arthur made it to the end.
Arthur was cleaned up, taken to the vet and Lindnord went through the necessary steps to adopt him and bring him home to Sweden.
Lindnord found himself a new, very loyal dog and all it took was showing Arthur a little kindness by giving him a meatball. The world could use more little acts of kindness like that. What may be a small gift to the person giving it means everything to the one receiving it.
