I don’t think I’ve seen or read about an uprising quite like this one. In the new film by Hungarian director Kornél Mundruczó, dogs will have their day. "White God” is the story of Lili, a 13-year-old girl who goes to live with her father. She brings Hagen, the dog she loves, with her. But then an official knocks on the door and informs Lili’s father that Hagen hasn't been reported – a requirement for mutts, since purebred dogs are preferred. Unfortunately, her father decides to give up the dog, which is heartbreaking to both Lili and Hagen.

Hagen’s subsequent struggles result in the discovery that not every human is as kind as Lili. He joins forces with the other stray dogs who have been abandoned and together they revolt against humankind. According to the "White God" official website, "Lili may be the only one who can halt this unexpected war between man and dog.”

"White God” has already received critical acclaim and won the Prize Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Here is the official synopsis:
"Winner of the Prize Un Certain Regard Award at this year’s Cannes Festival, Kornél Mundruczó’s newest film is a story of the indignities visited upon animals by their supposed ‘human superiors,’ but it’s also a brutal, beautiful metaphor for the political and cultural tensions sweeping contemporary Europe. When young Lili is forced to give up her beloved dog Hagen, because its mixed-breed heritage is deemed ‘unfit’ by The State, she and the dog begin a dangerous journey back towards each other. At the same time, all the unwanted, unloved and so-called ‘unfit’ dogs rise up under a new leader, Hagen, the one-time housepet who has learned all too well from his ‘Masters’ in his journey through the streets and animal control centers how to bite the hands that beats him …”
