Dog Grooming Reality TV Series Debuts

Animal Planet’s “Groomer Has It” features 12 dog groomers vying to make the cut.

And may the best groomer win…

Animal Planet will air “Groomer Has It,” a new reality show that features 12 dog groomers battling it out for $125,000 in cash and prizes, including the title “Groomer of the Year.” The show will be hosted by actor and singer Jai Rodriguez, formerly of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.”

Contestants will compete in a grooming salon and live in a Los Angeles loft, dubbed the “Dog House.” Challenges include styling puppies for their runway debut and grooming several exotic dog breeds. After each challenge, Rodriguez and a panel of outspoken judges, including veterinarian Karen Halligan, champion dog handler Xavier Santiago, and grooming expert Joey Villani, will decide which contestant does not make “the cut.”

The grand prize winner will receive $50,000, a mobile grooming salon from Wag’n Tails Mobile Grooming, and the title “Groomer of the Year.”

“Groomer Has It” debuts Saturday, April 12 at 9 p.m. EST/PST on Animal Planet.

I am a shop owner and in my opinion, the judges don't know what they are talking about half the time. I saw them rip on a groomer because a dog had stains on it's beard when he was finished. That can not be removed in one grooming. If they have a product that can do that I would like to know what that product was.

i have watched your show from beginning to end and you three are the toughest judges that ive ever seen but thats what makes a good groomer.you all fooled me tonight because i thought, Lisa was a show in but you have to deside who is the best groomer of the year is.i am not a groomer but ive benn in this business for 50 years and i know a good groomer when i see one.as they say may the best groomer win.my groomer told me that she could groom ARTIST off the show.i will tell all three judges, there is no way in HELL that she could do that. she would be gone in the first week cause she cant take preasure. love your show and looking forward to the next season.

I was very disappointed at the lack of education some groomers had and the comments of "hate" a few made towards breeds they didn't like. Because of these two reasons, I feel the show should have been a real eye opener for all who leave their pet in the care of a groomer. Just because they're willing to take your money, doens't mean they're willing to properly care for your dog.
