More Than 900 Dogs Displaced by Katrina Rescued by Noah's Wish

Noah's Wish has cared for more than 900 dogs displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

October 18, 2005
To date, Noahs Wish, a non-profit animal welfare organization, has cared for more than 900 dogs displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Miracles continue to happen every day, said Terri Crisp, founder on director of Noahs Wish. Just last week, a dog was rescued from a nearby highway. When she arrived at the shelter, we realized she was nursing, so there had to be puppies left behind. We took the dog out to the area where she was found, and she quickly led us to a porch where we found her puppies.

The puppy and the mother are now doing well, Crisp said.

The organization has concentrated its efforts in Slidell, La., about 31 miles north of New Orleans. It has coordinated its efforts with Slidell Animal Control.

The organization has also rescued other animals, including more than 600 cats, three geese, two mice, 12 rabbits and two potbellied pigs.
