The purchase of the police dog was made possible by Stater Bros. and Milk-Bone.
The San Bernardino, Calif., Police Department held a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. PST yesterday to honor its newest K-9 officer.
The police department was able to purchase the police dog thanks to a $5,000 donation from Stater Bros., a supermarket chain, and Milk-Bone.
It will train the dog with the help of a $2,500 grant from Stater Bros.
The ceremony held at the San Bernardino Stater Bros. Supermarket located at 977 Kendall Drive included a K-9 unit demonstration and participation by local elementary school students, who have taken part in an essay contest about how the new K-9 officer will make their community a safer place to live.
Since 2001, Milk-Bone and State Bros. have made donations to State Bros. communities through the Milk-Bone Canine Heroes Program. Since its inception, the program has made six donations totaling more than $50,000.
