Gala Raises Thousands for Canine Health

The Canine Health Foundation’s annual fundraiser took in $83,000 to finance research on diseases such as canine cancer and diabetes.

The American Kennel Club’s Canine Health Foundation (CHF) rounded up more than $83,000 for canine causes at its annual Gala by the Bay fundraiser, which took place Nov. 30, 2007, in Long Beach, Calif.

The money will fund research into the causes and origins of canine diseases in an effort to develop effective treatments.

During the gala, acting CHF President Cindy Vogels presented the 2007 President’s Award to the Golden Retriever Club of America and the Golden Retriever Foundation for their significant contributions towards advancing canine health.

“For many years, the Golden Retriever Club of America and the Golden Retriever Foundation have been enthusiastic and generous supporters of the AKC Canine Health Foundation,” Vogels said. “Members of the club have supported over 40 years of research grants in topics including diabetes, hemophilia, hemangiosarcoma, canine brain tumors, and osteosarcoma, among many others.”

The CHF was founded in 1995 with the mission to improve the quality of life for dogs and their owners.

We need more events to raise money for canine health problems. Maybe one day we can find the cure for many cancers and diabetes.
