Some of us have no choice to take our dog out in the heat (Service Dogs). It would be great ro see an article showing what devices are made to keep your dog cool esp. in the car, and how to get them.

Thank-you for the helpful reminders. A couple of other recommendations: keep pets off lawns that have been treated with pesticides; dogs with short snouts (like the english bulldog and french bulldog) have difficulty breathing, in general, and require special consideration/attention in the heat.

This is a great article. I had neighbors who kept their dogs in a van last summer all the time. the windows were down, they had water, but it was HOT (90 degree weather or more). I called the SPCA and the police and got verbally abused by the people for doing it. I love dogs and I will do anything I can to help them. I don't really know what happened, because the people left, but I hope and pray the dogs are living and well. Catherine

Thank you for an excellent and timely article. Every year dogs die horrible deaths because stupid people leave them in cars in the sweltering heat. We all know how it feels to sit in a car in the heat of summer. I'll never understand why some people don't understand that our dogs feel the heat just as humans do. It is negligent and terribly cruel. Where I live it is also illegal. However, every year dogs either die or are brain damaged from being left in cars. Hopefully, this article will help raise awareness of a dangerous and ongoing problem.

I have a 7 month old ShiShu and when I take her out I also tke a bag of ice and place it in a towel and wipe it on her hair. I also wipe the feet with the cold water. Sometimes I lay a cold cloth on her abdomen.

THAT'S GREAT BUT THE FLEA INFESTATION, IS GETTING SO HARD TO CONTROL, IN THE GROUND ON MY DOGS, AND YES I SPRAY, WASH THEM, AND HAVE USED THE ONE YOU PUT ON THEIR BACKS, ALSO SPRAY THEM DOWN WITH THE FLEA AND TICK SPRAY. THEY ARE STILL INFESTED
