i have a puppy he is only about 4 months old, i would like to talk him for a walk but i'm always scared that when i let him outside alone that he will leave the home and do our route when i'm not with him. is this just me or will my puppy stay at home anyway?? cause as of right now he stays at home & i dont want that to change.

You need to anticipate the dogs excitement with the oncoming cars and correct him before he attempts to chase but just as he shows the attention to want to chase. Your repeated and consistent attention to this will eliminate the problem

I'm suprised I didn't see anything about what to do when your dog wants to chase cars. I have a border collie who walks good on a leash but whenever he sees a car coming down the street, he wants to chase it. I would like to see an article in the future on how to solve this.

I am weird. I find walking the dog sooo boring! First they tell me to not let him walk past my body towards the front and then they say be the one who decides what to sniff and then if he wants to even look at a neighbors lawn I feel like they are watching me so I don't let him poop there or that I won't be picking up his poops so I hold a plastiv bag all obvious like and then there are the neighbor dogs who come barking their brains out and i hope the owners aren't going to punish them or that they aren't sleeping or something...also just when i get a nice pace going the dog wants to stop and sniff...oh does he need to do his business or????nope just
sniffing...etc
soooo. i moved to a place with logging roads and i get past the neighbors and let them loose....whoa! what a difference! sure I'm taking a chance because their might be a skunk or rabid beast, mountain lion or bear!and the rainy season? i worry just how muddy they WILL get! ya think i'm a worry wart stressed out american? yup! but I still get my dogs exercise

This article was right about walking being good for the dog and the walker. Every morning I arise at 5:00 AM so that I can walk my 2 poodles separately for about 45 minutes each. They love it! I began by taking short walks 14 years ago. At that time I weighed 152 pounds. Now I weigh 120 pounds.

I have a female Rat Terrier who is 6 months old and hates walking on the leash. The former Breeder never had placed a leash or collar her. She refuses to walk on the leash.

Good article. But if your dog gets excited when he sees other dogs he could be in need of some socialization. You don't always need to tell him no when he gets excited, ask the owner if the dogs can meet.

My young lab pulls also but I bought a gentle leader which worked wonderful. She does not pull when wearing it and I'm working with a trainer on learning to walk her without the gentle lead.
