I am a dog person. My german shepherd, Rascal, God rest her soul, was the best friend I could have ever asked for. She loved me like I have never been loved before. She loved me through good times and bad. She was my best friend. It has been 3 years and not a day goes by that I don't miss her so much it hurts! I now have a dog I adopted from the pound and she's a great girl, but a german shepherd is an angel in disguise. Miss you baby girl!

I am an all-breed dog trainer who has owned germen shepherds since i was twelve. I like all dogs but i will always have a german shepherd. they are a real presence. you must be firm with them and consistent and provide exercise and outings. They can be wary of strangers and bossy with other dogs if they are not continuously socialized. They also need to be fulfilled as a working breed thru training and structured activities that challenge mind and body and at the same time further your bond. My german shepherds have been involved with personal protection training(with a professional k-9 trainer who had years of law enforcement experience, do not take protection training lightly or you might just end up with a mean dog instead of one who is calm and social and ready to protect if necessary) and also we have done some search and rescue training. My last three german shepherds have competed in obedience trials and were awarded titles by the american kennel club. Love, companionship and purpose, that is what a german shepherd wants.

This profile is very true. At the present I have 2 GSDs, a senior at 10 years old and a puppy of 9 months. I had a GSD when I was growing up. The bond between GSD and his people is incredible, but this breed is not for everyone. GSDs shed. They also need a great deal of attention as well as mental and physical stimulation. They are extremely intelligent and intuitive of their people's feelings. Exercise and training are a must. If you do not assume the role of pack leader, your GSD will! But if you are willing to put forth the effort, you will be rewarded 100 fold with a loyal friend beyond compare. There's nothing like a GSD!

I HAVE A 2 1/2 YR OLD GERMAN SHEPARD SHE IS A SABLE GORGEOUS!!! Conversely, they are remarkably gentle and tolerant of children if both child and dog are properly trained and socialized together at an early age. Shepherds take their child-care duties seriously! THIS IS VERY TRUE I ALSO HAVE A 2 1/2 YR OLD DAUGHTER WHOM CAN CLIMB ALL OVER THIS DOG THEY GREW UP TOGETHER AND NOONE ABSOLUTLY NO ONE CAN COME NEAR MY LITTLE GIRL WHEN THE DOG IS AROUND. MY ON MOTHER N LAW COULD NOT PICK UP THE BABY WHEN SHE FIRST CAME HOME.. GOOD DOG FOR KIDS AND FAMIIES:) WOULDN'T WANT ANY OTHER BREED THEY ARE PURRFECT!!!!

A GSD is the perfect breed. After our newfoundland pasted away I got a puppy. She is very protective but also playful. She is very much my guardian as she has protected from human and animal attacks, but she doesn't just protect me. If something happens when she is around she is very much in the chaos. The GSD is perfect as it guards and protects but is also so loving. I would recommend it to anyone that is willing to put in the time.

After many years of being lucky enough to have shared my life with many wonderful breeds, my GSD has managed to take my heart forever. I will never own another breed again. He makes me laugh on a daily basis and he also continually shows me how much he loves me with all of his kisses. He alerts me when he is concerned about something and a lot of times he

is a better judge of people than I. He has become more of a partner than a pet. A wonderful breed.

The article is so accurate & I hope individuals considering acquiring this breed would educate themselves as it would solve countless problems following the purchase. It is so important one deals with a reputable, knowlegable breeder in order to avoid multiple problems!
