Definitely......and it was good to know, because I have had one for the past 11 months....we do everything together. I have found that she is the most emotional dog I have ever owned...although I did have a wonderful Bullmastif who was very emotional, but she showed it in a more silent fashion. More facial expression, less sound. I love big dogs....all I've ever had....and I'm now 75.

The GSD is a dog who thrives being with the pack (family). I got a large breed dog because I enjoy running. I took my Sheppard for his first 2 mile run around the block a few weeks ago. When I got home, I noticed blood at his front pads. Apparently, I ran him to the point that he wore down his pads. He never complained during the run....Lesson learned, my Sheppard will stay by me no matter the circumstance. He will try his best to always fulfill my expectations. He is only 16 weeks old!

I am a german shepherd person, now the proud owner of my second one and have been around them all my life. I agree with everything in your article, especially that they should not just be yard dogs, left to themselves alot. Shepherds want and need to be a part of the family and thrive on the interaction. they want to know every little thing you are doing and what they can do to help. My shepherd now even helps with the laundry by pulling things out of the basket and dryer. They are extremely smart about everything and often seem to have ESP. They really NEED LOTS of human interaction and companionship.

I don't know where I would be without my shepherds working with me on the farm. Glaciers Knight of Green Acres and Elsa's Little Allabye are both imports with working backgrounds and it shows. I have owned shepherds for over 25 years and would have nothing other than a shepherd work the horses by day and with me and my family at night.

I have had German Shepherds all my life since i was a young child. Now at 40 years old i still am in love with the breed. Currently i have a blk and red 6 year old girl named Lexi and a 18 month old white German Shepherd male named Sebastian. They are the most loving, protective and sweetest dogs i have ever had. I am truly blessed to have them. I would do anything for them. God Bless the german Shepherd!

I have 2 GSDs both rescues. They are as different as night and day. Greta is happy go lucky and Bear is quite serious. I believe in having your dogs inside with you so you REALLY do need to be tolerant of dog hair. I usually "bring" my dogs with me to work everyday. You definitely need a good vacumn and use it regularly. I dearly love them both. THey are a huge part of my life.

I have owned and trained GSD's for over 20 years. These K-9's sense everything (not only weakness)! Don't worry about them being hard to train. I have had three strong and powerful males that were more obedient and protective of the women in my family than the men. When a powerful male GSD (German Shepherd Dog)senses weakness in a female owner, he will protect and obey her 100 times more than a big male owner. GSD's live for one thing -to seek approval from their owner. Remember, GSD's are herding dogs that protect and nurture smaller animals. I feel that this article gives the wrong idea about the breed as far as a need to be a big strong owner for the dog to respect you. The time for concern is when the GSD senses weakness and ill intent in people OTHER than the owner! You want this when your life is on the line.

to
Lineah,
my sister breeds GSDs and yes they can sense weakness. they might overpower you, so i would suggest you not add a german shepherd to your home. if you want a larger dog, try a golden retriever or a lab. they are known for being good dogs for sporty families and are gentle. goldens are more mellow then labs though. hope this helps

i have a miniature poodle and i am thinking of adopting a german shepherd. however, i admit i am not an extremely powerful person, so will it be difficult to train one? with all that power if they sense weakness will they attack? someone kindly answer back please.
