Two days ago my beloved pet was put to sleep by our private vet. To my amazement, he used gas prior to inserting the big needle in. My "girl" kicked a bit while taking in the gas. I screamed that she was suffering and the vet said she could not feel anything. I can't sleep, the brutal image keeps playing in my head. I don't think they should use gas. No gas!

I pray that this law passes. Even if not cost effective the use of gas chambers or heart sticking methods for euthanasia is totally brutal and you do realize that most shelters are not properly sedating these animals-in order to sedate them properly you need to give them and injection anyhow so why not just do one iv of a humane nature. It is amazing that this puppy survived and I wonder how many more there were?

How is it possible that humans get to have a more humane death when they have done wrong in society??? Murders get to die by injection....they should be the ones suffering for killing an innocent life. THESE ANIMALS HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG to deserve this inhumane treatment! Its absolutly sick and something must be done to stop it. Where can we start in our own state to end this immediatly?? What can be done? Please email me with

Gasing animals to death is an abusive and horrific act.It should be ended immediately and never to be be considered an acceptable option. Hitler used to gas Jews in concentration camps-how is this different? The animals are frightened, frantic, and often attack each other and tear the nails off their paws trying to escape and leave broad slashes of blood and torn nails on the floor. It can take half an hour for them to die. I ask, would we do this to homeless people, unwanted kids in foster care or old people who have no family or money? No. So why are we doing this to animals ? Why are they less important?

If a gas chamber isn't bad enough, what about electricuting dogs and cats and heart sticks. All are more expensive than $2.29 euthanasia. This should be a federal law. And why are there so many dogs in these shelters anyway? Do they not have spaying and neutering? STEP UP AND FIX YOUR ANIMAL so there isn't 300 dogs a week in each county being euthanized. The shelters in NJ don't have half the amount of dogs. In fact, my 80 square mile town has an average of 10 dogs at all times and never euthanize if friendly. In fact we have lots of rescues who make runs to transport animals out of these horrible situations.

Euthanasia is a peaceful quiet death free from fear, pain, and stress. This is NOT what happens in a gas chamber. "Euthanize" does not mean simply killing an animal. You do not "euthanize" dogs or cats by gassing them any more than you "euthanize" by machine gun or machete.

I have watched an undercover video of animals being gassed & it is HORRENDOUS! I can not understand why this is still allowed in this country?! It needs to be stopped NOW!! I am happy that this is being addressed BUT it needs to be stopped LONG BEFORE 2011.

it cost less than a dollar to use injection for euth. They didnt have 6k to do that the humane way?? Where do they buy their supply? You would think that maybe pfizer, bayer or one of the companys would donate the funds or meds for this...They spend more than that at clinics for lunches and inkpens and pads they give away!!!! Sorry this upsets me.

This act should be stopped. How would they feel if that was them surviviing and being left in a dumpster? Maybe they should try that and see if the bill should be passed then.

What is most upsetting is that people let this happen at all by breeding animals for personal gain. I wish that more pets were adopted from shelters than bought from unresponsible "Breeders" We have 3 shelter dogs and they are wonderful companions.
