This is what happens when you let your dog loose outside your house, securely fenced in yard or off-leash dog park. Why can't people keep their dogs on leashes? There are leash laws to help prevent just this sort of thing. Plus, sighthounds and herding breeds are attracted to things moving quickly and some dogs ( one of my own included) don't like for other dogs to run up on them and it can spark an aggressive reaction.

People who have seen this couple in interview should know that they aren't telling the truth. I saw one where the man said Butler slapped his dog. Now that's surely different from a hit. Then his wife corrected him. They should be ashamed of their selves. Look what their doing for the breed. Now people will think twice about adopting these dogs.

What do I think about this article? I think you didn't do your research. I think TMZ did. Look at the comments at TMZ on the day of the incident. They called the NYPD where the couple allegedly filed a complaint. The NYPD told them they "got a good laugh out of it." Also no less than 3 ppl working in stores on the avenue on which the incident happened posted what they saw (all the same story). They were not related to either party. Sorry to disappoint those looking to find the celeb guilty but that's not what happened. If you think about it, that story doesn't make sense anyway. Butler walked his dog, off leash, but literally next to his feet blocks from the set where he was shooting. The older couple w/the greyhound were walking toward him, as the g.h. approached the pug it lunged. Butler broke them up, picked up his dog, leashed it and kept going in the same direction back to the set. Oddly the couple changed direction to follow Butler confusing everyone around (maybe they recognized him). The g.h. lunged at the pug again and this time got the pug by the neck, which is when Butler apparently physically separated the dogs and exhanged words w/the couple about the g.h. But he also realized his dog was hurt by that time and rushed back to the set where he got a car and took his dog into Manhattan to the animal hospital. So I think we DO know what happened. This story makes far more sense than the tabloid story of a jerky celebrity w/a tiny dog irrationally picking a fight w/a much larger dog. Pls ppl THINK - just b/c it's printed does not mean it's true.

Rescued Greyhounds, which this one was, can be aggressive toward smaller dogs. Racing dogs are conditioned to chase a fuzzy little object after all.

His pug spent 3-4 hours at a vet getting her neck wounds tended to. That doesn't happen by touching

Oh, and his name is not Gerald.

It seems to me that no one knows what happened so I don't think we should have any opinion on it.

you should never hit a dog no matter what. I am not convinced he did hit the dog. What should one do in a situation like this where another dog is attacking your dog?
