Thank you so much for this review. I just finished reading this book about 2 weeks ago and was wondering why it hadn't been reviewed. Jane Miller's life work is fantastic. God bless her. Our healing companions thank her!

I bought this book for friends and students! Along with great advice and wonderfully illustrative and inspiring stories, this book has amazing resources in a huge set of appendices with tons of information about training, types dogs, and about the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it applies to Psychiatric Service Dogs -- a real handbook for anyone considering a PSD.

I have read "Healing Companions" and found it to be a thoughtful, thorough picture of the many ways in which dogs can become another beneficial aid in dealing with mental problems. It is well written and easy to use as a resource.

I can totally vouch for this one! I've seen what the right dog can do for people and even children. My neighbor's dog encouraged my sister to say her first word just by coming up to the fence everyday to see her!

I agree. Dogs should be prescribed for cases of ptsd.

It's a great read and very informative. That said, I do wish that they would have also included the Psychiatric Service Dog Society (psychdog.org) in their references.

I am considering getting a service dog for some of the reasons listed, and I am very excited that there is a book about this! I will definitely be checking out this book.
