Hello,
My mom is 64 and has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. This has been a shock to everyone...especially her. My mom and dad had been discussing the prospect of another dog. Obviously now though, my mom's needs are quite significant as we believe she has progressed beyond the mild to the moderate stage. Any suggestions in terms of a service dog would be greatly appreciated.

Guide dogs for the blind was the only website that offered any info about adopting a retired dog. I guess we are just going to have to call these other groups.

My name is Laura, I have Servelle Martorel Syndrome, much like the Klippel Treneunay Syndrome that is mentioned above. I had my left leg amputated in June 2010. I am looking for a service dog to help me with brace and balance when I'm walking on my prosthetic (which I've had a lot of trouble with) and also when I'm at home and I don't have my prosthetic on.

I've contacted many organizations but all say you must be 1 year out from becoming disabled and then there is a 1-2 year waiting list. But I am in need now, and in 1-2 years will likely have learned to do everything on my own. I am already looking at possibly having to have my right knee replaced as it's taken so much abuse in my 27 years that it's already becoming painful. A service dog could help me put less strain on that knee. I can't wait 1-2 years or longer.

Also, I can't afford thousands of dollars. I have about $500 that I could pay towards getting a service dog but that's about it.

Please, if anyone knows someone who can help, please let me know.

Thank you,
Laura Essary
