Tickets for the fifth annual AKC Meet the Breeds, the world’s largest showcase of dogs and cats, are now on sale. On September 28-29, 2013, attendees will be able to meet, pet and learn about 160 different dog breeds in more than 160,000 square feet of space at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan. Breeders and their dogs will be available at breed-specific booths to answer questions about the breeds. If you want your purebred dog to represent its breed at the event, contact your breed’s parent club for more information about participating.
Rare dog breeds will be represented, including the Puli, Bedlington Terrier and Clumber Spaniel. Demonstration rings will include agility, Flyball, Frisbee, grooming, law-enforcement K9s, Rally and simulated hunting tests to show attendees different activities they can participate in with their dogs. Breeding, first-aid, grooming, nutrition and training experts will be available to answer questions, and more than 100 vendor booths will sell products and give away samples.
Cats will be represented at the AKC Meet the Breeds event, too, with 50 breed booths.
Attendance for the 2013 AKC Meet the Breeds, presented by healthcare provider Pet Partners, Inc., is expected to exceed 40,000. More than 35,000 people attended the event in 2012.
