The smallest of the four Swiss Mountain dogs, the Entlebucher is smooth-coated and bobtailed. Its good herding instincts make the Entlebucher is a trustworthy watchdog and companion with a lively and attentive character. The Entelbucher delights in the company of people and forms strong bonds with its human family. It is extraordinarily gentle with children and friendly with other dogs. Entelbuchers are good housedogs and easy to keep in the city. Wherever they live, they are strong, energetic defenders of the home. Today the dogs are used in Switzerland for herding and pulling cheese and milk carts. Easily trained, they are quick learners and enjoy obedience competition. The dogs stand not more than 20 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 55 and 65 pounds. They are heavy boned and muscular; a short, thick coat covers an athletic body. The dogs are black and reddish-brown with white at toes, chest and blaze. The breed requires weekly brushing and moderate daily exercise to prevent pudginess.
