What's in a Dog Name?

Giving your puppy a good name is important.

Collie puppiesOne of the important factors in training a young pup is to give him a name. Sometimes it may take a week or so before you find a name that fits the dog. Other times, you will have the puppy named before you bring him home. In general, short, one-syllable names are the easiest for training, such as No, Scott. It becomes more difficult when you have to say, No, Pitter-Patter or Sit, Mary Beth Rose. You want a name that not only fits the personality of the dog but one that fits the breed itself. You aren't going to name your Collie Spot or Tiny, but Lad, Lass, Walt, Bruce and Tess are all good Scottish Collie names. Your dog will quickly know that you are talking about him!
