The Toy Australian Shepherd should look similar to the standard-sized Australian Shepherd. Toy Aussies range between 10 and 14 inches tall at the shoulder, with 12 inches ideal. Although small, Toy Aussies are sturdy and should look neither spindly nor coarse. A happy, good-natured dog with an even disposition, Toy Aussies might retain the instinct to herd, even if they never encounter livestock. Instead, some will herd their owners. The medium length, straight to wavy coat is weather resistant and comes in blue merle, black, red merle and red - all with or without white markings and/or tan points. The tail is docked or a natural bobtail.
